We are seeking a highly skilled textile artisan or team to execute a large (2.4m x 1.9m) hand-embroidered wall-hanging using traditional Afghan techniques. The design (outlining geographic shapes and motifs) will be provided, so the focus is purely on faithful embroidery. The end result should reflect the style of classic Afghan tapestry work, with dense, even stitching in vibrant silk threads. No digital printing or machine embroidery is acceptable.
Key Requirements Authentic Technique: Must use a cotton/linen ground cloth with the design pre-outlined (silk-screen or hand-drawn) Embroidery should be done entirely by hand, using traditional stitches (often called Bokhara or satin stitch) as practiced by Afghan artisans
Skilled Artisans: Ability to coordinate multiple skilled embroiderers is required, as these works historically involved teams of women collaborating on each piece. Attention to detail is critical to accurately render each region’s design.
Materials: High-quality silk (or fine wool) threads in the provided colors must be used, enabling a vivid, multicolor resul. Decorative borders and filler patterns should be consistent with traditional Afghan embroidery motifs.
Scale and Patience: The large size and complexity require patience; historically, such pieces often took many months to complete. There is no strict deadline; thoroughness is more important than speed.
Quality: The final textile must be expertly finished (secure edges, neat reverse side, etc.) and ready for display. We will provide the full cartoon/design and expect the embroidery to match it exactly.
