> Functional Requirements 1. Swimlanes • The diagram must contain seven swimlanes by default. • Each swimlane must: • Have a unique name label. • Be assigned a distinct color for easy visual differentiation. • It must be possible to add or remove swimlanes without breaking the structure of the template. 2. Phases • The timeline must be divided into four distinct phases, clearly separated by vertical lines. • The phases should be named and labeled (e.g., Phase 1, Phase 2, etc.). • It must be possible to add new phases or rename existing ones. 3. Elements within Swimlanes • Within each swimlane, there must be two types of elements (“sub-balloons”): • Tactical level elements • Operational level elements • These sub-balloons will contain either: • Milestones • Deliverables • Sub-balloons should remain independent shapes (not automatically connected), so they can be placed anywhere within their swimlane and phase. 4. Trigger Swimlane • One swimlane (typically at the bottom) functions as a Trigger Lane. • This lane must be able to receive arrows/links from the other six swimlanes. • The arrows represent triggered actions, originating from milestones or deliverables in the upper swimlanes. • Not every milestone/deliverable must trigger an action, but the option should exist.
> Technical Requirements • The template must be delivered as a Visio .VSDX file. • It must be a template (not a static diagram), meaning I can reuse it for different projects. • The swimlanes, phases, and sub-balloons must be editable objects, not fixed shapes. • The diagram must support data integration with Excel: • Ability to import data from Excel (e.g., swimlane, phase, element type, milestone/deliverable description). • Ability to export diagram data back into Excel (so changes can be tracked in a tabular format).
> Usability Requirements • The template must be intuitive to update, even for non-technical users. • Adding new swimlanes, phases, or elements should not break formatting. • The design must follow a professional, clean visual style suitable for executive presentations. • All objects (swimlanes, phases, sub-balloons) must support copy-paste duplication with retained formatting.
