My wife and I are preparing to completely renovate our future home in Coconut Grove, FL, and require a structural engineering package to accompany a new floor plan I’ve drafted in Chief Architect. While we like the direction of the current design, I expect only an engineer can tell me if it’s viable (from an engineering standpoint).
In coming up with this design, my plan was to maintain the existing roof and location of all exterior walls in an effort to stay within budget. We also tried to emphasize extensive glass to connect with the outdoors.
I have attached a PDF that includes the original house layout, photos of the current house, and the proposed floor plan with renderings.
This will be our first time renovating a house here in Miami, but from what I’ve learned, to receive my building permit, I will be required to provide the following, stamped with a Florida stamp: • Architectural drawings • Structural drawings • Structural calculations package • MEP drawings (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) • Energy calculations • Wind load calculations for new windows and doors
I do not know what to expect this to cost, so I simply set the amount to $500. Please feel free to submit an alternate price.
