We’re looking to bring on board, in a freelance capacity, a front/backend developer who has a really strong portfolio showcasing great front-end development, transitions, animations, experimentation and interactions preferably built using the WordPress CMS.
We’re currently working on brand new websites for a luxury, boutique, five-star hotel and restaurant group (six separate sites in total - one group and five separate venues) based in the UK.
80% of the internal/easier template designs have been started in Figma. There is a style/look and feel already in place, elements of which we do want to keep, however, it's perhaps not fully realised in some templates and as a result, some look a little sterile and flat. So the client is very keen to bring in a specialist designer/developer to review, improve inconsistencies, and add creativity, colour, textures, space and layering while helping us narrow down the animation, interactivity and experimental ideas we have in mind.
Following the review, the next stage will be for the designer to make adjustments based on your development feedback, to the existing templates while finishing the remaining pages, along with all mobile templates.
However, there is still scope to make a start on parts of the development around this period.
We have a detailed but fluid technical spec breaking down the designs, content block suggestions and animations. Should the spec need adjusting to make the site work, then we’re open-minded and happy to make changes. We have everything in place and are looking to make an immediate start on this process.
Initially, we're looking to build two modular sites (group and one venue) that share information either through the WP RestAPI or possibly RSS.
Once those two sites have been developed and fully tested/bug fixed, the next step will be to duplicate the venue site and create four separate websites for each venue.
The backend has to be built in such a way that makes it extremely flexible and allows the client to drag and drop pre-built content blocks using the Advanced Custom Fields (or similar) plugin. It also needs to be flexible allowing us (through your help) to quickly add additional venue sites.
We have plans in place for further stages also; around two more venue sites, a separate eCommerce site and interactive tours using Mapbox. Having worked with the client for 10+ years they invest in their digital marketing each year and are always keen to add new features or improve the design.
Listed below are a few sites the client referenced including others we've encountered along the way. Our hope is that the design, transitions, animations, interactivity, and experimentation you will bring to the table and which we have in mind will be of a comparable standard if not higher:
We appreciate that some of the animations will be created using GIFs which possibly the designer or a separate animator will create, however the more experimental animations we would expect to be built through code.
We’re looking for a developer/developers or company with experience in:
Creating hotel/tourism sites with real impact
WebGL, Canvas, CSS and similar animation technologies
WordPress headless CMS (possibly using strattic.com or similar)
Advanced Custom Fields (or similar content block system)
We have no issues working with two specialist developers, one for the CMS and a second for the front-end animations.
Sharing a handful of strong working examples that you can discuss in detail is essential.
If the role is of interest, and you have the capacity, please share your five very best live projects that you feel are comparable if not better than the shared examples and that you're happy to discuss in detail.
Thanks
Jonathan
