I run an ecommerce Shopify store that sells artwork, and I'm currently looking to hire somebody who is very proficient at coding and web design.
I don't just want to hire someone to help with one particular project, or one particular set of changes; I am looking to hire someone to basically *be on retainer*, meaning you will be available for me to send you a change I'd like to make to the website, and you then send me the lines of code to add into the appropriate Shopify theme files to bring those changes to life.
It will be an *ongoing relationship where you continually help me out with issues I have* and help me to implement changes I request, not just one time, but just for as long as we agree to work together on an ongoing basis.
Fast turnaround time is absolutely crucial. The whole reason for me to hire someone to help in this role is to help improve the speed of website improvement. Me having to figure out how to implement these changes myself, it's a very time-consuming process. It would save me tons of time and speed up the website-improvement process to just be able to send you an e-mail explaining what specific change I want to make/what specific problem to solve, and then you just send me the code that would make it happen.
The types of changes I'll be requesting will generally be small, subtle tweaks—nothing insanely time-consuming or massive. Like to give you an idea, some of the last few changes I made for example, were:
1) increasing the spacing between the main product image and the breadcrumb on mobile; 2) changing the size of product preview images to be a different size on mobile vs how it looks on desktop 3) injecting a bit of code into all product pages that shows a little ClipArt image of a speeding van next the words → FREE SHIPPING on all U.S. orders!
Something else I have my sights on now is changing the order in which certain page elements load to improve the user experience. So the requested changes will be pretty basic stuff for the most part.
I've also worked with several coders/web designers before who are very experienced and I know how fast they work and how easy it is for them to come up with a fix for the types of problems I have. Like a few of the ones I've worked with literally come up with lines of code that solve my problem in like 60 seconds. What that tells me is the types of changes I'll be requesting generally won't require large amounts of your time to solve. And since I'll probably only have a few requested changes per week on average, this won't take up a lot of your time.
Given all of that, I'm marking my starting offer as $250 per month but am open to discussing alternatives to this. Again, these are mostly going to be just little minor changes and improvements I want made to the website. I'm not gonna be asking you to do any crazy shit like design entire pages or crazy new apps or anything like that.
QUALIFICATIONS I'm looking for: --Proficient at HTML, CSS, and Shopify Liquid --Fast turnaround time & good communications (as in, I send you a change I want made, and you get the code back to me that day or the next for me to test out on my website.) --Good attitude!
To give you an idea of what my website is like, here is a collection page I've been working on recently, where these product pages, the interface you see there, is sort of the working prototype for how I want the rest of the store to eventually look (still a work in progress!) -- https://nextlevelartwork.com/collections/outer-space-collection
Candidates I'm interested in, I'll probably send you a test challenge of a site improvement or two to see how you do and how your code ends up working. Nothing crazy but just something to see that you know what you're doing and can quickly get these things done with ease.
Thanks everyone! I look forward to hearing from you. —Anton
