I am looking for a talented WordPress developer who can build a quality news aggregation website.
This WordPress installation will aggregate news, YouTube playlists, events, activities and weather into a one-stop information resource about Thailand. The scope of the project includes:
1. Selecting and Configuring a News Theme
I have access to a number of news themes from the NewsBuilder 2.0 package. However, a different theme can be used if it delivers better results.
2. Configuring News API and RSS Feeds
We need to populate the site by bringing in feeds of fresh content from external news sources. This can be done by filtering and aggregating RSS feeds, through news APIs, or both.
The content needs to be in English. However, I would like to increase the quantity of content by retrieving Thai-language content and automatically translating this into English before posting.
I am also open to other ideas for scraping content from other sources, or using other methods to aggregate fresh content relating to Thailand.
I would also like to integrate content from Facebook, Twitter and YouTube playlists.
3. Fetching Events Content
The site should retrieve content from Meetup groups and other events, using the WP Meetup plugin or similar tools.
4. Displaying Weather Information
We need to show a ‘weather’ strip at the top of the site, displaying time/temperature and conditions. This will be for Bangkok as a minimum, but it would be better to list weather from several major cities.
We will then have a full weather page for each city, showing more detailed weather information.
5. Optimizing for Monetization
The site layout also needs to be optimized with ad space sections, so that we can monetize with sponsored content from various sources.
6. Training the Owner
Once everything is set up and functioning correctly, you will need to train me on how to run and maintain the site.
That’s it! This should be a straightforward project for a developer who is experienced in WordPress aggregation, RSS feeds, etc. When you submit your proposal, please begin by addressing me as Keith, so I know you have read the whole brief.
