I use Visio for creating a specific type of diagram but there is no existing template that I can use to speed things up. I need a new diagram type that allows me to add components and modify data items associated with them.
This is not just a matter of creating some shapes that link together visually. They need to store metadata and rearrange themselves as new data points are added, so this needs someone with a solid understanding of the internals of visio.
In the attached example, I would start by adding a new shape called a "Fact". That's the circle in the middle. I would then add new Measures to the fact - these are "Equity", "Turnover", "Credit", "Employees". From there I would then add new dimensions. The dimensions start as a line coming from the fact and have a name i.e. Filing date. Filings, Company, Person
Each dimension has a granularity - this is the first point on the line i.e. Day, Document, DOB.
Each dimension can then have a hierarchy of attributes i.e. Day rolls up to month, which rolls up to quarter, which rolls up to year.
Dimensions can just have attributes at the grain i.e. DOB, Role, Shareholding
I consider this to be a fairly complex project and I need to have proper integration with context menus - similar to how timeline shapes work i.e. you can add new markers and points on the line as structured data points.
Finally I need to be able to export this data from visio
